Position: Communications Intern

Description: SMPS Pittsburgh is seeking a dynamic, self-starter to assist the communications committee in our 2021-2022 efforts. This internship is an excellent opportunity to experience various aspects of marketing, primarily content marketing, whilst gaining networking and educational opportunities.


  • Assist with updating and maintaining the SMPS Pittsburgh website
  • Assist with SMPS’s social media presence, including promoting events and news on various outlets such as LinkedIn, Facebook, Twitter and Instagram
  • Photograph events (including digital) for promotion on various platforms
  • Assist with graphic creation for various events and activities hosted by the Chapter
  • Various other tasks as needed by the Chapter Board & associated Committees



  • Grasp of available tools & platforms in social media space
  • Working toward a degree, preferably in a Marketing/Communications or related field
  • Previous internship or related experience in marketing or communications is a ‘plus’
  • An effective communicator
  • Self-motivated, good organizational skills, detail-oriented, ability to prioritize, multi-task and meet deadlines as it relates to time-sensitive content
  • Enthusiasm for marketing, learning, and networking



Position requires a commitment from acceptance through December 2021; hours may vary and all can be completed electronically at this time.


This position is a paid internship offering $500 (option for payment of $250/semester is available)

Heartland Regional Conference 'Call for Speakers' is open!

The SMPS Heartland Program Committee is seeking engaging programs for the 2021 Heartland Regional Conference that
will be in held in Milwaukee, Wisconsin on May 12-14, 2021. Programs should fit into the themes of:
• The conference theme “Dial It Up!”, focusing on how attendees can take their firms and careers to the next level.
• Exploring industry innovations, highlighting upcoming A/E/C trends and showcasing where the industry is moving
in the future.
• Offering strategies for individuals and firms to adapt to changes and challenges while thriving when they occur.
Topics should address one or more of the SMPS Six Domains of Practice: Market Research, Marketing Planning, Client and
Business Development, Proposals, Promotional Activity, and Management. In addition, the conference would like to offer
programs on career/personal growth.
Submissions will be carefully reviewed to be sure attendees are offered the best possible content. Consequently, HRC will
not accept programs that will be given at Build Business 2020 so please note in your submittal if you have also submitted
to Build Business. Additionally, HRC is asking that speakers limit their submissions to a maximum of two.

SMPS Pittsburgh Members, Registered Guests, and Friends,

SMPS Pittsburgh continues to prioritize the health and safety of all of our members, volunteers, and guests. Due to the unprecedented and fluid situation surrounding the COVID-19 (Coronavirus) pandemic, effective immediately, SMPS Pittsburgh is postponing all events through the end of March. Members and guests who have already paid for these events will be contacted shortly and offered either the choice of a refund, or the opportunity to transfer their ticket to another event in the future. 

Our organization will continue to monitor this situation closely and will keep in touch as this ongoing situation continues to evolve. If this state of affairs continues beyond March, we have started strategizing ways that we can still provide value to our membership, including live streaming or recording events, providing more webinars, and more. 

Please keep in mind that although all events for SMPS Pittsburgh have been cancelled through the end of this month, our decision does not affect other national SMPS activities but is reflective of what our local region's leaders are advocating. If you are currently registered for other SMPS programs or conferences, we recommend that you reach out to The Society directly if you have any questions. 

We appreciate your continuing support of our Chapter and your patience as we continue to weather this ongoing situation. Do not hesitate to reach out to me directly if you have additional questions or concerns. Remember, elbow bumps are in and wash those hands!
