New Member Spotlight: Jennifer Portaro, Manager of Client Care & Education

Jennifer Portaro is the Manager of Client Care and Education for Menard USA and has been with the company since January 2011. She is a graduate from the University of Michigan with a BA in Economics. While she hasn’t always worked in the engineering industry, the theme of her career has been business development and helping companies grow. Jennifer’s current role focuses on the relationship and experience between Menard USA and the clients they serve. Menard USA is a design-build specialty geotechnical contractor offering expertise in ground improvement for sites with poor soil. Combining value-engineering and innovative techniques, Menard delivers practical, sustainable solutions that can be attractive alternatives to deep foundations.

Why did you join SMPS?

It’s important to continue to push yourself and challenge your creativity. SMPS is a great opportunity to connect with successful people in our industry who can foster out-of-the-box thinking.

What SMPS events are you most looking forward to?

In August there is a business development seminar in Philadelphia that I’m excited about.  Overall though, SMPS has some great events and I want to attend as many as I can.

What do you do in your free time?

I have two boys, a 3 year old and an 8 month old so my free time typically includes epic light saber battles, testing how many Legos Thomas the Train can haul as cargo, and countless hours of helping the baby hand-hold walk across the family room.

People would be surprised to know that…

I spent my teenage years in drama club and was the leading lady in a few of my high school productions!
